We are so excited that this year The Gabbidon Band will be performing on stage as part of Sunday’s line up. The Gabbidon Band is the latest creation of Basil Gabbidon, founder of Steel Pulse. His music is eclectic, a mixture of Roots, Rock and Reggae.
Basil’s influences are Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Jacksons and his aim to keep Reggae music alive, international and accessible to all. Most of all, to make it live forever.
After four successful albums, including the highly acclaimed ”Handsworth Revolution”, he left and returned to his Handsworth home forming Bassdance” with his brother Colin and recorded two albums “Loud”, and “Louder”,
The band has produced a new album; Reggae Rockz,
“’Reggae Rockz ‘is his new album featuring, unsurprisingly coz the clue’s in the title, a modern take on an old theme in reggae but with a hint of rock and a twist of dance. Along the same lines then as Steel Pulse I guess but with perhaps just a quick nod in respect of the modern electro dance world.
Now, you know how reggae always tends to come with a distinct feel good factor no matter what the topic of the song? And you know the way reggae somehow always sounds better during the hot summer months? And you know the way reggae gets inside your head and instinctively your feet start to dance? Well, Gabbidon brings you all of that and more as he dishes up a tasty reggae concoction to get the juices flowing and the body parts mobile. Yes, there’s a hint of rock and yes I can see there’s a small element of modern dance but, essentially ‘Reggae Rockz’ is just a bloody good reggae album, plain and simple – forget about what it might or might not include within its shell, forget anything other than reggae. ‘Reggae Rockz’ is just a cool reggae work – an album for anytime – an album of finely crafted reggae beats and chilled grooves absolutely typical of the form!”
