DJ Dekker Sunday Afternoon the best of ska, rocksteady & reggae on vinyl.
In the Beats & Feats Marquee on Sunday 27th June at Staffs Fest will host Stafford based DJ Dekker a.k.a. Deryck Wilson with the best of ska, rocksteady and reggae on original vinyl.
Deryrk is a reggae lover and collector who has amassed a vinyl collection since the 1970s – though some of his records date back even further. The love affair began in the 1970s, going to punk gigs in Birmingham and hearing the likes of Burning Spear and Tapper Zukie blasted through sound systems, in between bands. “The likes of Don Letts and The Clash helped forge a link between British punk and Jamaican reggae – and at clubs like Barbarellas, reggae and dub became the nightly soundtrack”.
Shortly after, 2-Tone arrived and the focus shifted back in time to the original ska artists, late 60s rocksteady and the emergence of Trojan and roots reggae.
Featuring original vinyl in all its glory (including the odd crackle and pop) DJ Dekker’s set will serve up non-stop Jamaican classics from 12 noon to late afternoon: from Prince Buster to Eek-a-Mouse, Culture to Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.
